Are you looking for a chicken that’s as unique as it is charming? Say hello to the Silver Cochin Standard chicken! We are incredibly excited to have these beauties as a member of the M.O.M.S Petting Zoo family! These chickens originated in China in the mid-19th century and were introduced to the United States in the 1850s. Since then, they have become popular due to their striking appearance and gentle nature.
One of the most distinctive features of the Silver Cochin Standard is its feathers.

They have white feathers with black lacing, which gives them a regal and eye-catching appearance. These birds are also one of the largest chicken breeds, with roosters weighing around 11 pounds and hens around 8 pounds. Despite their size, Silver Cochin Standards are gentle creatures and are easy to handle. They’re great for families with children and are excellent at brooding and mothering chicks from other breeds as well.
These chickens are hardy and adaptable.

They can thrive in various climates and living conditions. They’re also very social animals and enjoy being around other chickens and humans. So, they make excellent pets and are sure to become the life of the party!
Silver Cochin Standard chickens are a rare breed.
Only a few thousand are registered in the United States each year. At our petting zoo, we’re proud to have a flock of Silver Cochin Standards so visitors can see these friendly birds and learn more about their unique characteristics, such as their impressive height and friendly personalities.
By experiencing the joy and wonder of these special animals, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the natural world. So come say hi to our Silver Cochin Standards, and see just how amazing they can be!
See you at M.O.M.S!
